St. Jude Health Center

Lack of an operational surgical center and ambulance often result in maternal and infant death.

St. Jude's Health Center

Within the St. Jude parish, there is a small health center that serves the surrounding community. The single building is approximately 1,500 square feet and all of the space is currently utilized. There are only a few toilets and showers reserved for those patients who are staying in the health center.

GIVE THE GIFT OF HEALTH

Our health center consists of:

  • Nurse Station
  • Pediatric Ward
  • Post-delivery Recovery
  • Women's Ward
  • Men's Ward
  • Private Ward (for clergy, sisters, and western visitors)
  • 2 Storage Rooms

Our health center administers vaccines for Meningitis, Hepatitis B, Pneumococcal, Measles, Polio, Tetanus, Diptheria, and Tuberculosis. We also provide essential HIV, Malaria, Syphilis, and nutritional check-ups to the population.

We Need an Operational Surgical Theater

One of the greatest needs of the health center is an operational Surgical Theater. The theater must be private and separate from the rest of the health center and would be used for minor surgeries and Caesarean section childbirths.

Currently, laboring mothers who are in the need of an emergency C-section must travel at least 24 miles or up to 3.5 hours away to reach the next surgical center.

Additionally, the health center does not have an ambulance and therefore, cannot transport the birthing mothers. These conditions often result is maternal and infant death.
