A Brief History of St. Jude Catholic Parish

St. Jude Catholic Parish, Mto wa Mbu is in the Catholic Archdiocese of Arusha. The Parish is Located in the Monduli District which is in the Arusha region of Tanzania, Africa. It is one hundred and thirteen Kilometers from Arusha Town.

St. Jude was established in the 1963 under the leadership of the Holy Ghost Fathers (Spiritans) who are still ministering to the parish today. In 1963, the faithful used to pray under a tree because there was no Church. Later, they built a small wooden tent. Finally, the parish was given a piece of land by the late Gabriel Mayunga. He was a parishioner of St. Jude.

Today, we have about 10 acres of land. St. Jude Catholic parish’s main campus serves the parish community, parish school, Little Sisters of St. Joseph convent, Mother Oda’s Vocational School, the Health Center, rectory, and the greenhouses, gardens, water tanks, and out-buildings to support these endeavors.
